When my husband and I were planning our wedding I threw out the idea of having a weekday wedding, not sure of how he would feel about it. Weekday weddings were not a common thing then, but fast forward to now where they are becoming more popular. He very quickly agreed and we wouldn’t change it, because we had the best wedding! As a wedding planner I knew there were major perks about choosing a weekday wedding which I’m going to share with you.

Weekday Wedding Benefit #1: Pricing

Why Get Married on a Monday? What if I told you that you could have the exact same $50,000+ weekend wedding for nearly half the price. The first reason for choosing a weekday like a Monday or Thursday is pricing. Have you ever seen a stunning wedding at a beautiful venue but thought, there’s no way I can afford that? Well you’d be surprised at what you can afford when you’re flexible with the day of the week. When you look at a photo or video that’s stunning, you never wonder what day of the week it is, just how nice it is. The venue is a huge part of your budget and by being able to get a more affordable price it frees up your budget for top of the line vendors, unique entertainment, more flowers, etc. Some wedding vendors provide lower pricing on weekdays which lets you book the best or allows you to get that DJ or Photographer you love that didn’t have any weekend availability. The key to an amazing wedding is booking great vendors. Also think of how amazing of a honeymoon you can book with that extra money?

Weekday Wedding Benefit #2: Flexibility

The second reason is flexibility. Are you set on an October or June wedding, but not able to find a venue you love that has availability? By choosing a weekday you have a world of dates open to you which will help to relieve stress. You don’t want to settle for something less just because you couldn’t find a venue or great vendor on a weekend date. Yes you will always be able to find a venue or vendor available, but is it the dream wedding you are envisioning?

Weekday Wedding Benefit #3: Guest Count

The third reason may be your guest count. Are you wanting a more intimate wedding, but all your dream venues require a guest minimum? Many venues will be flexible with guest minimums on weekdays so you can still have your dream venue.

More Wedding Benefits

There are other great benefits to a weekday wedding. First, you can celebrate the entire week or weekend. Everyone tells you your wedding day goes quickly so why wouldn’t you want to celebrate your wedding all weekend? In some cultures it’s actually tradition to have a multiple day celebration. If you choose a Thursday your wedding celebrations. Kicking off  Wednesday with your rehearsal dinner, and end with a weekend at the NJ beach with your closest family and friends. If you choose a Monday you can plan activities for the weekend leading up to your wedding day. Second is travelling. Plane tickets and hotels are actually the most affordable in the middle of the week making your guests’ flights and stay more affordable. Mondays are great if worried about guests missing work. They will then have the whole weekend to arrive and many couples have more flexibility with employees taking off in the beginning of the week versus the end.

Weekday Challenges & How to Overcome Them

The biggest concern I hear about weekday weddings is the fear that guests won’t attend or have a good time. I can tell you not only from my own wedding, but from planning other weekday weddings, the guests will show up and they will have a great time. A weekday during a popular time of year actually helps you have a better chance of guests attending.  Maybe they had been invited to other weddings on Saturday in the Spring or Fall and maybe wouldn’t have attended. If you want your guests to have a great time, this is where booking great vendors comes in because if you have a great DJ or Band your guests will dance. Choosing an amazing venue with delicious food and awesome bar selection ensures your guests will have a good time. Planning a multi-day celebration? Maybe everyone can’t make it each day, but they will definitely be there on the wedding day. You may be worried about accommodating your guest’s work schedule. Plan for a later start time on a Thursday so guests can come from work and then maybe take a half day or day off the following day. If you’re planning on a Monday.  Consider ending the wedding by 10 PM so guests have time to go home and sleep. Your guests will be excited to have a long weekend and to celebrate with you. When you plan a weekday wedding, send out save-the-dates ahead of time to give your guests time to plan. Make sure to write the day of the week before the date so that guests know that it is indeed a weekday date.
